Decided to start a blog to write down my summer adventures, if my wish does come true and I get to go for summer studies overseas!
Exchange has always been something I wanted to do since I love travelling but for some reason I never thought much about it. And then my grades became kind of bad after year 1 so I just assumed I would never get to go for one. And then about a month ago when GEM Discoverer (the summer exchange programme for NTU) applications were open, J was talking of applying for it. GPA requirements for summer are less stringent than for a full semester exchange, so there was at least a chance of me getting to go for one. (especially since I was looking at fee-paying programmes) So.. yup, I figured out that there was nothing to lose from applying and eventually decided to apply for UCLA.
I have always wanted to travel to the US again ever since I went there as a child. I like american brands and really want to shop there, plus the states has lots of places for sight-seeing as well. And of course Disneyland and all the other theme parks too! However, I might not get to go there eventually so I shall cut the excited speech about the US and get to the next point: my appeal.
Surprisingly, NTU approved my UCLA summer studies and of course I was mad happy and excited...till I discovered that I couldn't match any of my major modules there. My plan for summer was to clear 2 econs (my major) modules so that my remaining year at NTU would not be so taxing. Also, my econs modules tend to pull down my grades while my unrestricted electives are the ones which help to make sure my GPA doesn't drop to a horrifying state. Well, it isn't actually anywhere near a presentable figure now but my point is that I score better in electives rather than my cores. *insert disgusted-at-myself emoticon*
Since J was applying to Korea and got approved to go for summer at SKKU, I decided to research other universities in the hope of being able to change schools. The more J and my other friends talked about Korea, the more I wanted to go Korea instead. Although I could have chosen another US university, I have always wanted to go to UCLA and I have no idea how to choose between the other US universities available for summer studies.
So.. today I went down to the GEM office, only to be redirected to LT20 where all the GEM Discoverer staff were at today. Managed to ask about the appeal and whether I would be able to since I missed the deadline and thankfully they said I could download the form on the website and submit it to them. Yay! But of course they would review the reasons and I'm still a bit afraid that they will not approve the appeal. I would definitely still enjoy going to UCLA, but the thing about not being able to clear cores there is a major damper.
Shall submit the appeal documents tomorrow and hope for a positive and swift reply! So much to do and prepare no matter whether I go to Korea or the US for summer!
